didnt focus on the firemen enough

at least not to the extent that they did the EMTs and the police officers
i remember my parents watching this show all the time (my dad was a fireman and the cheif of EMT) and he and my mom always hated how during the latter part of the series they kinda forgot about the firemen

The explosions and fires really cost them a lot of money I believe.

I agree, the same thing happened too Rescue me...

On top of that NBCs budget was being pared away over the years. They just couldn't afford the expensive stuff anymore.

The FD was the least interesting part of the show anyway.

What? No! Eddie Cibrian was a cross between Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde! Surely, you jest.

The cost of the fires and explosions and what not was extensive. Nevermind the fact that there are only so many fire story lines you can explore. There are thousands of criminal story lines to explore.

Exactly. Not only are fire effects expensive to make, there's also the safety regulations and insurance/liability hurdles to go through. You also need cameras and equipment that are built to withstand heat from a fire, and those are much more expensive.

That's why so many shows these days opt to use CGI fires and explosions to save money. Unfortunately they look so fake compared to the real thing.

kinda hoping this wont happen to chicago FD soon :s i'm really liking that show and considering how expensive that stuff is.
