Was Alistair immune to magic?

Alistair once remarked that Tabitha's "voodoo whodoo" didn't scare him in the least, and that all her herbs and chants were useless against him.... Um, why is that exactly? Seriously why didn't Tabitha ever use magic on him? Since the entire town hated him, she could of easily gotten rid of him. What, did he have some sort of anti-witch stuff ala Dracula with crucifixes or something to dissuade magical beings from messing with him?

Apparently, Tabitha's magic wasn't that powerful, seems like nothing she really did last except for Kay turning into a witch. But yes she could have easily finished Alistair and everyone else in town, but didn't she mostly just see things in her bowl before they happened?

Wasn't that powerful? Tabitha has claimed to be responsible for a large portion of historic tragedies, such as the destruction of Pompeii and the sinking of the Titanic, so I doubt that.
