Jon Favreau's Character - Dual Personality

I don't get it at all. At first I thought he was a stoic tough-guy cop. Then he turned into some airhead jock who talked funny and tackled anything that moved.

I thought maybe I missed a part of the film that explained something. Like maybe he had a brother.

Anyone else notice this? Any reason for the discrepancy?

It's not unusual for a football player to be stoic off the field, and an animal on the field.

I played baseball for a long,long time and I would talk trash, yell, and cheer on the field, but off the field I'm a fairly quiet, level-headed person. I guess it has something to do with loving the game and being competitive.
