After Falco showed up in the locker room during the Dallas game some of the Sentinels grabbed Martel. What happened to Martel after that? I would like to think they locked him in a locker and urinated on him. Wouldn't be the first time - it's how we used to treat the rookies.
In at least one script, the players threw him into an equipment cage and McGinty locked him in it. He could see a small televison saw Falco kissing Annabelle (and getting kissed in return) and the rest of the game from there as Falco brought the team out of the ashes of the first half to victory, the one thing Martel could not or would not do.
At one point there was some work on the script that Martel-- upset that he had to agree to a huge pay cut to return-- (Oneil's line in the film when he informs McGinty that wilson and Martel were coming back ) that he bets heavily on Dallas to win and cover and deliberately trys to lose the game.
Interesting dirtyoldhawg. The first point actually would have been good.
I dont like the game throwing part. I like the way the movie plays out of Falco being the better quarterback for the underdogs since Falco has heart. Plus Martel wouldn't do that, he would have been banned for life if he got caught throwing a game for gambling purposes.
Yes but Martel's character was written as such a complete, grade A quality, unreedeming *beep* that throwing the game wouldn't be out of question of someone with his questionable character.
but the point is that Falco was the better quarterback to lead that team and it was proven in the last game. It wouldn't have been so had martel been losing on purpose.
