Greatest movie ever?

Who else loves this movie more than any other? The story was great and the acting phenomenal. Here's my top 5.

1. The Replacements
2. Citizen Kane
3. The Godfather
4. Taxi Driver
5. Pulp Fiction

i'll go you better...

Keanu Reaves - greatest acting performance EVER. Leaves DeNiro and Olivier in the dust.

Bateman - best character in a movie EVER. Nuanced, layered, metaphorical. This is the real Favreau. I can't believe he was holding back on us in Swingers.

Plus, the whole scab deal being an allegory for the protestant reformation. Sheer brilliance!

The Replacements-Greatest Movie Ever????????????????????????????????

NO!

It's not even the grestest fottball movie ever and it is very loosely based on.............................................

a very UGLY SCAB N.F.L. Strike.

The best and only really good thing about "The Replacements" is the appearance and casting of Pat Summerall and John Madden.

The rest of the stuff and the scenes in the movie is a complete rip off from what happened in a very serious way in front of all the sports media from obviously October 1987.

"The Replacements" had a really significant impact on how I view professional football to point of asking this question.

Do any of you reading this know ...........................................................Gene.................................upshaw...........................................

Glad you posted that absolutely brilliant message twice

reply

I guess the truthful issue about what I just had to post not once but twice DOES NOT add up to much besides Pat Summerall and John Madden being in the film in the first place.

Professional football fans watching a group of scab replacement pretender players be hired to do that to skilled, trained legitmate former N.F.L. players is somehow very funny and also a great way to prove what stealing other people's occupation is all about.

reply

It's not stealing other peoples jobs. SOmeone has to play the game, and these individuals wanted to do it. If the professionals didn't want other people playing for them, they shouldn't go on strike

reply

I know the story is quite old about that situation and outdated to a extent. My problem is that they took what was a very controversial situation from a particular sports league and MADE A BASED ON A TRUE STORY CINEMATIC FILM that was not funny at all in the least bit.

BTW, I'm not attempting to defend football players. The only point is their jobs if you want to call them that were stolen.

(I'll say more about this matter later on)

reply

Really? Their jobs were stolen? I'm pretty sure that when you go on strike and agree not to work, and then those jobs are given to other people until you decide to go back to work, that isn't stealing someones job. That is someone vacating their job

reply

No, not the greatest. But definitely one my favorites.

reply

i understand you are trying to be funny but i cant even go with that this movie makes me physically ill to watch, i would rather watch lawerence taylow break joe theismans leg for an hour and a half, that is better entertainment

Sounds like you're jealous. You're probably some sad, lonely, alcoholic who's never really accomplished anything. You could learn a lot from Keanu Reeves' characrter Shane Falco.

reply

well imho it seems like you may just be some extra who went to a the stadium and wore a stupid giant foam hat and thats the only reason you like the movie

reply

Yeah...go back to your "DINNER TIME, MY FANTASY FOOTBALL ROCKS YOUR WORLD, TRUST ME"

I cheer when a so-called scab takes a union hack's job. If you want your job go to work. If you don't want to work and someone else does, then more power to them. By the way. Why does a group of independent millionaire contractor's need a union anyway. If the owners can break the back of sports unions-- great.

Let's not get carried away.

Best movie ever? Not hardly, but one of the best sports comedies on my list. I can't believe some people got their skivvies all in a wad over it. Since the topic was broached though- anyone who goes on strike has no right to complain if they are replaced. I have a strong dislike for unions in general. And yeah, Gene Upshaw, Curt Flood and the lawyers who sucked up to them- thanks a lot for ruining professional sports. I hope you all rot in Hades
