Obviously the writer's...
didn't know anything about football or bothered to research the game.

Why do people make these bold, sweeping statements yet fail to give any detail or support to their claim?
How about making some substantive statements to back it up?

The eyes are the groin of the head.
just go to the goofs! i'd prefer not to type them all out but everything i noticed is under the goofs.
sharewhy are people so anal that they need "detail" everytime someone gives an opinion?
do you really believe that this movie is above reproach?!?
What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?
Let’s examine some of those goofs, shall we:
1) Factual errors: During Falco's first play in the Dallas game (kick ass on one), the ref calls multiple unnecessary roughness calls and then wonders how many penalty yards to give. In Pro football, only one penalty may be called per team per play, so it wouldn't matter how many people got caught, only one unnecessary roughness penalty would be called, for 15 yards.
Umm, the audience knows that. I was supposed to be funny.
2) Factual errors: At the end of the first game with seconds left, the team with the ball gives it to the running back, and Bateman strips him of the ball. In all Professional Football games the QB would simply take a knee to end the game with so little time left, and would never hand it off to the running back.
Never say never, cause I seen it happen. If the Sentinels had timeouts left, then they would run the ball. And the whole point of that scene was to create a sense of urgency to score. How lame would it have been to have the QB fumble on a kneel down.
3) Revealing mistakes: After the play when Jumbo scores, Falco returns to the bench, and McGinty says "that's not in the playbook..." McGinty calls for the Kickoff team. They do not even attempt the extra point.
Do we really need to SEE the extra point? Maybe they should’ve showed up the halftime show as well.

for goofs. Every movie has them.
Factual errors
During an extra point attempt, the clock is running. In real football, the clock is stopped during extra point attempts.

In Pro football, only one penalty may be called per team per play, so it wouldn't matter how many people got caught, only one unnecessary roughness penalty would be called, for 15 yards.

In the last game against Dallas, in the drive leading to Washington's second touchdown, on the next to last play there are two defensive players (Bateman and "Smith" Wilkinson) in the offensive huddle. With the earlier injury, it is conceivable that one defensive player would be asked to play "both ways" - but not two.
Towards the end of the second game when the team is attempting an onside kick, Shane Falco is on the field and actually tackles Danny Batemen to prevent the clock from expiring. Quarterbacks generally do not participate in kick-offs, onside or regular. They are usually resting and preparing for the next offensive series. During the play John Madden says "They have to recover the kick and then call timeout". In the NFL the clock automatically stops after all kickoffs, so no timeout would be needed to stop the clock.
I enjoyed it for it's emotional impact. It was quite successful at that. But it would have been nice if they could have had a more realistic approach to actual games. Undoubtedly, the writer either didn't care to work that hard, or didn't know football worth a *beep* For fans, it does take you out of the fairy tale for a second or 2. Not enough for me to dislike the film, but enough to realize it could have been better.
