I've never played a Resident Evil game...

I've heard much about this series and I've seen people play the games, but I've never played one myself (except maybe once, but that was a long time ago). I'm wondering, if I were to get into the Resident Evil series, should I hunt down a copy of this game or just go ahead and grab a copy of RE4? Mainly I'm just worried that if I play 4 first, I might not be able to appreciate the older games due to the weird controls. Anybody have anything to say on this topic?

I'm so old school, they tore the school down!

Yeah I definitely recommend starting with the original, and working your way up to RE4. You might have to spend a decent amount of money for the first three because they are pretty rare, but trust me it will be worth it. And if you start from the original you get to hear some incredibly laughable dialog.

Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.

If your going to get the oringinal 1st RE get the directors cut. big improvements all round and more replay value.
