What came first? Pyramid Head or Executioner?

Okay, I've never played a Resident Evil game, and I've never willingly watched any of the films. My boyfriend was watching a bootlegged copy of Afterlife, and I was in the room with him. I pretty much only bothered watching the scene with the Executioner, and I couldn't help but notice how alike he and Pyramid Head looked. And they both seem to have roughly the same function.

I'm not trying to compare Silent Hill and Resident Evil in any way - they are very different in story, and it bothers me when people debate on which is better. Anyway, I just wanted to know when The Executioner made his first appearance in the game. I tried to look it up, but couldn't find anything. I already know the year that Pyramid Head made his first appearance.

I just kind of feel like one of the games are copping off of the other.

Pyramid head was created in an early draft for Silent Hill 2 in 2000, in 2001 they included him and his first screen appearance was 2001. Hope that helps.
