O Brother contrasted with Fargo
The Coen's 'Fargo' is one of my favorite movies, get past the gore and bad language and it is a masterpiece of dark comedy. They were paying homage to the simple, honest people of the regions they grew up in, while making fun of the crooks.
I just watched "O Brother" again after 15 years and I enjoyed it as much as my first time. But it seems to me the Coens, Jews from the north, were mostly making fun of Mississippi folks, and in particuilar Fundamental Christians. Compared to what they did in 'Fargo' this one seems much more mean-spirited.
