Of Doctor who or something? Like Torchwood? I want to begin watching just would like to know first.

No, not a spinoff of anything. Some believe it was inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book, but that's it. Dive right in, and have a little patience with season one as it takes its time establishing the characters and letting them acclimatize to each other. Most people think it picks up in the final half or third of the season. Hope you enjoy it!

It's also said to have taken inspiration from Terry Nation's show Blake's 7.

This show would be as weird as any scifi show. prob on par with lex..
