Benjamin and Charlotte....SPOILERS!!!

At the end of the film, when they ride up in the wagon and we see that Benjamin's militia men are building his new home, it looks as if Charlotte is carrying a baby. Are we to assume that, at some previous point, they got busy and the child was their newborn?

The child could be of a family that was killed or something, so I'm not sure, but I figured I would ask in case someone else noticed this and thought the same thing.

Anything's possible. We aren't really shown how much time has passed since he last saw her and when we see the home being built. Actually, of course, we don't even know that the last time WE saw them together was the last time he saw her before seeing her after the war was over. Who knows. Actually, I'm not even positive there was a baby. I just assumed there was by the way she was holding the blanket. LOL. Eh, maybe too much assuming. You know what they say when you assume (actually, I hate the saying, and it's stupid, so I won't type it).

I have always considered it his and Charlotte's child. I believe it's safe to assume that enough time had passed for this; they could have conceived when they were at the Gullah colony, and the final battle probably happened farther North (since it's not depicting a single battle, but is a mishmash of multiple.

But that's my opinion. I could be wrong. ?

One other thing - it also stands to reason enough time had passed because the guys (re)building the home had made decent progress. It would have taken time to get the people together, the materials, plan stuff out, etc. They didn't have phones, cars, or Home Depots, ya know? ?

I thought it was their baby together. Never thought anything else.
