Not sure if this has already been asked but just wondering why the detective calls nicolas cage's character by a different name to everyone else? His name is Memphis Raines but he calls him Rannal Raines....

His name is Randall Raines, "Memphis" is just his cool-guy nickname. Kind of like Sphinx, Sway, etc.

Oh okay haha I thought Memphis was his real name, but that makes sense thanks.

Also the detective chooses to refer to him by his given name. I'm guessing he respects the talent but is seriously frustrated that he couldn't bust him the last time he ran a crew of boosters.
