Is this movie trying to sell the idea that ...

... people tell any number and all sorts of direct lies, or perhaps should consider telling these lies, because some person or other couldn't take the truth?

Affleck tells Paltrow that he was looking for some copies, at the occasion where they first meet (and then doesn't get the copies), not to mention not telling her straightaway what his actual business with her was.

Paltrow tells Affleck the dog's name is Fred, when the dog actually has Affleck's name.

Paltrow tells everyone that she is divorced and not a widow. (How long does she think she can get away with that one when she tells so many people?)

Affleck tells Paltrow's son that his dad did not mention needing to get home to sell Christmas trees.

There was a number of lies and misrepresentations concerning the ($2 million) real estate deal.

Sure, there is the idea of "little white lies," but there were so many lies flying around in this movie that perhaps a better title for it would be Liar's Club.
