Seriously? How stupid can you be? (Spoilers)

The guy was being blackmailed, and he paid to have his blackmailer killed.

So Nathan's first thought is to BLACKMAIL HIM. Seriously? You're going to BLACKMAIL the guy that PAID YOU TO KILL the woman that was BLACKMAILING HIM? Not only that, but you ask him to FIND YOU A PLACE to hide out? A place he will obviously know WHERE YOU WILL BE. A place where you are keeping the EVIDENCE you're using to BLACKMAIL HIM.

Nathan should have just been killed for that level of stupidity.

But I guess it runs in the family. "Here's the evidence that will take me down and unravel this plan I have so thoroughly cleaned up after screwing it up so badly, oh, wait, my wife is here. Maybe I'll destroy it later. I'll just leave it on my desk for now, while I leave, and my wife is still in the house who I just told I was divorcing." Even though it seems like it was an innocent mistake on her part, what if she wanted to be vindictive and looked for something of his to destroy and found that?

Ray Fladeboe thought so.

When you're green, you're growing, but when you're ripe, you rot.

Yes in the end Bill Pullman's character was a bit careless and stupid and while I didn't particularly like this film it seemed pretty feasible that he might just be that careless. Let's not forget how arrogant and conceited Callum was and not to mention that up to that point he had managed to get away with so much due to his underhandedness. In the end it was his own callous over confidence that led ultimately to his downfall. I'm not going to say I condone what he did but anyone will tell you if you're wanting to get away with what Callum did you destroy the last shred of evidence while you have the chance. It's kind of fitting and poetic in the end that It's his own cockiness that proves ultimately to be his undoing.
