You ever heard of a Marine concept called a CAP? A reinforced squad teamed up with a local militia platoon? The leathernecks tended to 'go native' because often they got 'invested' in the local fight and they extend & extend and extend their tours to protect 'their' village'.

Would be interesting. Don't think Hollywood is ready to tackle that yet, they'll wait 10-20 years to make that, until Vietnam war has been forgotten.

I don't think English is his first language. I presume he's proposing a BoB - type series centered around the Vietnam war, has been suggested before.

I kinda thought that might have been it. I don't really see it happening though. They would have to do one for the Africa/Italy campaigns first and then Korean and THEN Vietnam. It wouldn't be long before someone demands something for the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts as well at which time DreamWorks will be accused of pandering and blah blah blah. They couldn't even just do BoB without people complaining.

There have already been some miniseries about the Iraq war, Over There and Generation Kill. The latter is ok.

But yea, it would be interesting to have a series about the Vietnam war.

If they do, I hope they delve into a little known aspect of the war & try to stay away from the cliches.

How about Korea 1st ... And not just focus on the Marines this time but the 2nd Infantry - 7th Infantry and 25th Infantry a bit too ... As most of the war casualties came from those 3 Army Divisions ... Not to diss the Marines but a lot of folks think after the Marines landed in Incheon the war was over ...

27th Regiment Wolfhounds of the 25th Infantry Division Cpt Millett would say otherwise as they won more medals of honor than any unit in Korea.

Tour of Duty is an excellent series set in the Vietnam war. It ran three full seasons, not just a mini-series, but includes the graphic battle scenes and the cameradrie and personal relationships.

I can't yet compare them directly because Band of Brothers is literally on the mail truck set to land in my box any minute,but I strongly recommend Tour if you want a comprehensive Vietnam one.
