What happened to Captain Nixon in part nine? Mini break down?

He got demoted randomly. Winters explained it a little but in military terms (which I don't get). He just starts off the episode pissed off. Nothing really major happened to him in the previous episode. I know he couldn't find whiskey and his wife was divorcing him but I just couldn't figure out why he got demoted.

I am guessing he was finally fed up with the war and just wanted to go home.

Anyone know why he got demoted?

Nixon's drinking was out of control and Col. Sink couldn't deal with him anymore. Winters talks about getting a visit from the "concerned" colonel that morning, then informs Nixon he's been demoted.

And you're right, there isn't a lot of detail there. But Winters discusses the situation in his autobiography - how Sink recognized Nixon's "tactical brilliance," but couldn't tolerate his repeated drunkenness any longer. He asked Winters if he could work with him; Winters replied he worked very well with Nixon, and Sink said "You've got him."

If I remember rightly he went from Battalion HQ's S4 to Regimental HQ's S4
