Series from the German prospective.

First off I’d want it to be known I’m a MSgt in the USAF and completely support the US and I’m happy we won. However I’d like to see a series like this from the German prospective. At the end of Band of Brother’s it makes you feel a bit for the German troops. I’m sure many of them were forced to fight and never really wanted anything to do with the war (peer pressure's a bitch). You could tell they all felt they walked through hell for no reason what so ever. I just thin think the prospective of the opposite side would be really interesting and educational.

Some movies or series from 'the enemy' perspective:

- Unsere mütter unsere väter
- Das Boot
- Stalingrad (the 93 version of course)
- Der Untergang
- Cross of Iron
- The Eagle Has Landed (fantastic score from Lalo Schifrin)

Das Boot being my personal favorite.

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

Watch "Stalingrad" the best movie told from german soldier perspective.

Stalingrad: weak & whiny Germans--creative hands are tied by political 'realities'; Cross of Iron: tough, ass kicking Germans who are also 'tight' with their comrades--Peckinpah's hands are NOT tied by political correctness.

have u seen "Apocalypse second world war" documentary..

reply

Documentaries & personal memoirs are not fiction. The 'fiction/novelist' creator has his hands tied by certain 'political realities'; 'Real Life' People like Otto Carius & Norbert Hannig make no bones about what they felt about their successes & their enemies, their government, their leadership & their comrades.

nah man, i am just saying this documentary is awesome and must watch for WW2 enthusiasts, most neutral doc without demonizing germans.

reply

Well define 'demonize'...when it comes to tank or plane sims I ALWAYS fight as a German because their kit is 'cool'.

I'm a vet too and I agree with you fully! Especially about it being educational. So often "the enemy" is depicted as being brutal and sub-human but anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that war is war and soldiers are soldiers. No matter what uniform they where or what place they call home.

Why not follow the jolly lads of a Waffen SS unit as it went around it's day to day work in WW2? Like the massacre of Belgian civilians at Stavelot, Belgium:

Or the many other acts of murder:

And the many more committed by them and their Army comrades on the Eastern Front?

The German Army and Waffen SS were brutal and what they did so casually marks them out as subhumans.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

The problem is that you don't know a lot about history or you wouldn't have posted this nonsense of a writing. There IS a big difference between the German Army and the Waffen SS. They are not even on the same level in hierarchy. The members of the Waffen SS were true believers of the Nazi ideology and were the leaders of this regime who benefited from it because it gave them status, wealth, etc.

On the other hand the average German soldier wasn't necessary Nazi, they had to sign up to serve their country otherwise they would've been tried and executed for treason if they denied doing their duty. They didn't benefit from the system personally, they were the ones risking their lives and dying out there. They did what they were told to from above.

Take a look at the German made miniseries Generation War. While not as long as BOB it tells the story of 4 friend who go through the war in the Eastern front. It's very much like BOB telling a no holed barred story from the German side, highly recommended.
