In E2, German uniformed soldiers from Eugene OR. Who are they?

They just casually sit there and Malark just casually talk with one of the guys in English. .
Are they Germans POW or disguised US?
Why are they so casual?
I guess they were Germans since one of the guy shoot them all, right?

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

reply

How did you want them to act? Also most European countries teach English as a secondary language, so some Germans knowing enough to converse doesn't seem too odd.

reply

You need to watch a bit more carefully. The guy Malarkey was talking to was an American from Eugene, Oregon who joined the Wehrmacht. As the character said...."all true Aryans should return to the Motherland." While this kind of thing was a bit rare, it did happen. The "disguised" Americans you refer to are likely the Germans that were deployed during the Battle of the Bulge, over 3 years later.
I advise that you read some history books. Movies are typically designed for entertainment, not a factual history lesson.

Hell, I remember seeing a war memoir somewhere on Amazon about a Canadian German who's family sent him to Germany during the depression & ended up as a Panzer crew man.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

That scene explains itself. Listen to the dialog.

The man Malarkey speaks to was an American born to German parents in Oregon. They returned to Germany, and he joined the army there. Although in real life they had in fact worked across the street from each other in the same town - which the writers decided to change because it probably sounded too unrealistic.

reply

They were POWs, captured by the airborne troops in the first hours of the invasion.

Only one was from Eugene. The rest were presumably born and raised in Germany.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
