"Why We Fight" made me feel bad.

That episode caught me most in the entire series, I mean when they found the people hurted and many were murdered, this is so hard to see, but still so true. Band Of Brothers really makes sense for me, this is the reality!

Did you feel bad in that episode?

reply

Definitely the most emotional episode. No matter how many times I watch it.

reply

Yes, the enormity of what the Germans did makes me cry. I think no normal person can see this episode and not be moved deeply.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

Lemmie tell you a little story--my family overseas has a very thick layer of anti semitism to it-even though their commies; some of it rubs off on me sometimes (hell, whenever I think of guys of Harvey Weinstein, George Soros, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Norman Lear etc, I sort of notice that they're Jerks & their Jewish)...one day I was reading a biography of Ann Frank to my daughter to help with a school report...and when I got towards the end, I just burst into tears & I could not stop.
When my daughter made her report she dressed up like Frank-including a paper yellow star pinned to her sweater--THAT really made my stomach do a flip flop.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

Yes I remember feeling very emotional after seeing this episode a few days after it was first broadcast. Coincidentally a few days later I went on holiday to Washington where I visited the National Holicaust Museum, in the foyer they display the flags of all the American Army divisions that liberated camps, that of the 101st Airborne was right at the end of the line. The visit made me appreciate just how well realised the camp in Why We Fight was, there were also exhibits showing German civilians made to tend to the inmates as the episode depicted so powerfully.

Worst episode. I have seen too much holocaust content. I am desensitized to it, so no, I did not feel bad in that episode. If I want to watch jews suffer there are dozens of films that do a much better job portraying the atrocities of the holocaust. 101st had a lot more adventures that were cut/cancelled so they could make Why We Fight, which is a damn shame. I would have much rather seen more of their other exploits, like Guarnere's "joy ride".

reply

Yes, it's very sobering but thankfully it was done. The story needs to be told over and over again so people will know what humans are capable of.

Amen.
