Tripp had no need to bring book for a ride to be lost

Professor Tripp had no need to bring his book on a ride in Hannah's car with Crabtree on a mission to retrieve Marilyn's jacket. I watched the movie enough to ask myself the question, "did the editor of the movie cut out the scene that laid out the reason to take the book on a ride"? I did not read the book so I am without this explanation. I'm sure the book explained to its readers the reason for the ride. Any answers?

I think he brought it to prevent Hannah from reading any more without his permission.

Saturday morning, Tripp wakes and decides to work on his book. He opens a locked cabinet with a key and removes his book. If he wanted to prevent Hannah from reading the book, he could've just locked it up.

Ahhh, I think you're right. Sorry, I've seen the movie about 15 times but its been awhile. I'll have to watch that scene again, I swear there was SOME reason why he brought it. Maybe it was explained better in the book (which was an awesome read by the way!)

If you still have the book, could you reread the part where he loses the book, then let me know.

How else could it rip off Woody Allen's Celebrity?

Crabtree answered your question on the drive back with Vernon, Oola and Grady. Sometimes people, subconsciously, will put themselves in a situation, even create that situation, in order to have an arena to work out unresolved issues. It's a covert way, if you will, of addressing a problem.

He probably realized what a POS it was after her feedback and wanted to burn it.
