It confused me...

Ok, I know there are actually two MLP cartoon series, one from 1986 taking place in magical land, and another one from 1992 (MLP Tales) where ponies live in world similar to ours, go to school etc. I can tell differences between 1986 ponies and 1992 ponies (not to mention it's easy to notice when pony enters school bus ;)) but I have also noticed, that there's also some difference within older series! I mean, I saw 1986's My Little Pony And Friends intro and "Battle for Midnight Castle" episode, but those ponies look different from some other ponies from that series (or maybe there's another series I don't know? But it seems that's this one too) Those are ponies I saw in various AMVs, mostly starring in episodes taking place on tropical island (with giant insect statues) and in land above clouds - They seem to have bigger heads and eyes, bit rounder bodies and sometimes they tend to walk on their hind 'hooves'. I don't know much about MLP, but according to what I've read, there are two series (1986's and 1992's) and some movies, so why are there actually three different types of ponies?

I guess it's the culture now. If you look at the old series of MLP they do act more like ponies. But in the new series they act like they're teenages and look all dolled up like fashion models.
That girl Megan isn't even in the new series, it used to be about living every young girls dream (for some reason) living in a dream land of ponies.
But now times have changed, image has changed, it's not about that anymore it's gotten well pretty superficial, and unfortunatly alot more people will be able to relate to it. Especially young girls, who care about body image and how much make up they have on.
Even if you look at some other eightees icons like Strawberry Shortcake, etc they have had ninetees makeovers.
It's sad, but at least you can hold on to the memories.
I blame people like Paris Hilton myself, but now I'm rabling.
Hope you got some sense out of that,
take care.

The episode "Rescue at Midnight Castle" a.k.a. "Firefly's Adventure" was the pilot episode for the 1986 MLP series. This episode was actually aired in 1984, before Hasbro knew they had a hit show, and two years after the release of the first MLP toys (in 1982). Once the show became a hit, the characters were changed slightly (who knows why), and it ran for about half a season as its own 30-minute show. The rest of the season, MLP was shortened into 15-minute episodes, with Potato Head Kids, Glo Friends, or Moondreamers taking up the remainder of the half-hour. The "1986 series" only ran for one season, but the Disney Channel attempted (poorly in some respects, I think) to re-create the MLP series as the weirdly all-too-human My Little Pony Tales in 1992. I guess it was made to appeal to tween-aged kids, but who knows? I'll always stick with the original (how about Bart Simpson's voice as Gusty?). Go figure!

Thanks, but there's also another type of pony which was actually my problem, and I still don't know anything about it. You know, the difference between ponies from two specials and from the actual series was very light, I think they had squarer snouts in specials, but I'm sure you also know completly different ponies (they even used their front hooves as hands), which already have their two movies, "Very minty christmas" and "Princess promenade", and I know there was whole series about them (I know there was episode on tropical island) Someone mentioned they are "new ponies" but then why can't I find anything about them on IMDB, on Wikipedia etc.? Everywhere the only infos are about "My Little Pony and Friends (1986)", "My Little Pony: The Movie (1986)", "My Little Pony Tales (1992)" and, as only thing about these "new" ponies, the movies mentioned above. I really wish to know something more about these strange ponies, what year they are from, list of episodes or anything. I hope you know something about (they lived in town by river, with castle), thanx for any help :)

Now I understand what you're getting at. The ones that you are referring to ("A Very Minty Christmas" and "Princess Promenade") are cartoons connected to the most recent (aka "G3") line of ponies. So, there are actually three sets of MLP cartoons. The newest ones aren't really a series, per se, because they go straight to DVD and generally only have one story to them.

Also, the newest cartoons are linked to the G3 line and have nothing to do with Dream Valley! It's all about Ponyville (where the earth ponies live) and Butterfly Island (where the pegasi live).

It's actually quite strange to me that this newest set of cartoons had all the regular ponies of Ponyville freaking out about "ponies with wings" in the Dancing in the Clouds video, and then tries to reference the original cartoon by bringing back Spike (who is STILL a baby dragon!) in the Princess Promenade.

Ok, thanx, now when I watched both films and two episodes I now much more about Rainbow Dash, Minty, Pinkie Pie and other G3 Ponies :) (BTW I don't think "this" Spike - 'cause IMO he only shares name with old G1 character but it's completly other dragon - is baby too, he only said he's quite young being 1000-2000, but it doesn't make him baby dragon, plus he acts quite mature)
