Question regarding possible error

Roland had been back to England more recently than Will, which doesn't make sense, because he was there when Will first came across. There wouldn't be a situation where two of a knight's men were in different countries, because they would both be with their knight at all times. Or was there an explanation that I missed?

I'm anespeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused you such pericumbobulations...

Yeah, I was wondering about that too ... maybe he just got a chance to go back home during the time he was serving the knight? Maybe they just made something like that up so that we would feel worse for Will, because he was the one who had been away the longest?

You give me joy that's unspeakable, Jesus I am so in love with You

I thought it weird too... but travel in those days was impossibly expensive, so it is reasonable to assume that Roland and his master returned for whatever reason leaving William and Wat to some other errand.

Thing is that you can speculate all day - it was never explained.
