'A Knight's Tale', 'Timelines' and Michael Crichton

"A Knight's Tale", "Timelines" and Michael Crichton

The film of Michael Crichton's book, "Timelines" was made a couple of years after "A Knight's Tale". However, if you read the book you will have noticed too many similarities to pass off as co-incidence. I would go as far as to say that it is a lifting of a central section of "Timelines" with changing of some names & characters and expansion of the jousting. I was surprised that Michael Crichton was not acknowledged anywhere on the film credits.

Haven't seen or read Timelines, so ::shrugs::. I think I have the book...somewhere. I got it used for about 5 cents. I should read it.

Say WHAT?

If you mean the book "Timeline" not "Timelines" then I do not agree with you one bit. There is next to nothing similar about this movie and the novel "Timeline"... and I should know, I've read the thing cover to cover about 8 times.

There is a small sub-plot about Marek jousting, but that's absolutely the only part of the book that can be even remotely similar.

Since nearly the first half of the book doesn't even have anything to do with the past and is set in the 'current', we can only go by the last half of the book. Going by that you've got (in my version of the book) 300 pages of 'medieval period'. In that space there is one joust, and that's pretty much it.

Please (since it's obvious given your comment "if you read the book you will have noticed too many similarities to pass off as co-incidence") explain in detail where there is ANY form of plagiarism.

agreed. I've listened to the unabridged version of Timeline on audio book after watching AKT many times and I saw no similarities at all.

Have read Timeline, seen the movie and of course "A Knight's Tale" and have no idea what the OP is talking about.

She's dreaming!

The only similarities Timeline and A Knight's Tale has is that they both take place in 14th Century Europe(mostly France), involve French and English knights and the 100 years war, and there is about 14 seconds of jousting in Timeline. In short, how dare Crichton draw a story from a period of history. That said, I don't know where the OP get their information but A Knights Tale came out in 2001 where Timeline was released in 1999 so it should be AKT giving Crichton props, not the other way around. Also, AKT, at least it's title and 1 character, pays homage to The Knight's Tale from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales written in the 1380's.

"Tick tick tick - still waiting."

Julianna has well and truly left the building and won't be returning any time soon.

No need to wait up for her.

reply

Yep,

Her history is something like 5 or 6 posts (two of them identical - this one and the equivalent in 'Timeline'), and nothing since 2012.

Rather typical of someone who makes a stupid remark. Doesn't stop her being stupid... but then are we any more intelligent by commenting? :)

You, at least, have an excuse. Rats aren't known for their high intellect :) (jk)

It's better corrected than left out there in cyber space to give some poor soul the wrong idea.

Hey listen big guy, I'm interested in doing everything and anything that I can to squeeze the creativity out of my brain. I guess I'm sort of a performance rat, rather than your normal domestic or typical lab.

Any way with the eye brows you're sporting, I'd be careful about the comments you make to one with such an elegant nose and finely tuned whiskers as I.

Actually rats are among the most intelligent animals.

yeah, Spooky is both spooky, intelligent AND very ratlike :)

More intelligent than I am at least... he's worked out how to have a cute little rat icon.

I've perfected the smilie tho :)

You really have a thing for Spooky. How come? It's weird. Almost like a stalker. Are you in jr high?

No, not at all. We tend to come across each other a lot on various movie discussions, probably because we have similar tastes in movies.

That's all it is. You can read whatever you like into that though.
