They're a peaceful race, BUT...
...if you knock on their front door the wrong way, then a giant sandstorm swallows you up and kills you.
Makes perfect sense.
Peaceful race but that doesn't mean they didn't have violent enemies.
shareIt was an intelligence test. What kind of effed up race kills someone who is not smart enough to pass a test, and why would you want to meet them?
shareHistory has taught us it's mostly dumb, insecure and generally primitive types that are violent. It's reasonable the same was true on other planets.
Also I think Cheadle's team tried to penetrate the face with force or some beams or something? (Can't remember, watched it at 2am or something)
Just watched it a bit ago. They wanted a clearer radar image of the interior so they moved the scanner closer and ramped up the power output. The defenses mistook that radar signal as an incorrect answer and responded with a Charybdis.
