I would have to say yes, with "The Doors" (1991) coming in at a close second.
This is simply an underrated and amazing film; definitely a fun feel-good film to watch. I loved all the characters, and I'm sure every straight male who watches this will instantly fall in love with Penny Lane, what a dream woman!
You guys have to recommend to me some more music type films, because I don't know of very many. Any other films similar to this?
I dont know many music films either but this is one of my favorite films in general. Its very well made and they make use of the rock era perfectly

Another great one for you 70s prog fans: Buffalo 66 with music by Yes, King Crimson, etc. This scene is the best (and only) use of "Heart of the Sunrise" in movie history. SPOILER ALERT: Shut it off at 2:10 when he pulls out the gun. BIG SPOILERS AFTER THAT (although there's a lot more to the movie afterwards).

I personally don't think any of the three films you list there come close to Almost Famous. Especially The Commitments. I recall really disliking that one when it came out and thinking it was cheesy and cliche. But it has been a while. Maybe I should watch it again? Probably not
However information_police, you did list a film I personally love which never gets the props it deserves: Grace Of My Heart. This film had a lot of soul and one of the best soundtracks of all time. All-time. But as far as movie making and taking everything into consideration, not close to Almost Famous in my mind.
