I've seen the film about three times now and I still can't figure it out. I may have missed it but I don't remember them giving a reason. They just talk about him going in the basement when the lights are out yadda yadda... Any help on this would be great. Thanks.

I remember Mark saying something about drugs and detectives nabbing him, when the car on his way to pick him up. Mark did not say how long Ken was in jail or when he was arrested. He was vague on the details of the arrest probably to protect his friend. Drugs make sense becasue Mark seemed to run with that type of crowd (not to say that Mark did drugs but his best friend took one too many acid trips).
