Why do some people hate this movie?
I don't get it. My family and I saw it and loved Hard Ball. I thought it was well made and original.

Actually, it's not original. There were plenty other movies with the same - basic - plot line. The Mighty Ducks, and The Bad News Bears, for example.
I'm not trying to say bad things about this movie; as I really enjoyed it and want to see it again. I'm just saying that it's far from original.
Then again; nothing is original anymore.
I'm not sure why some people seem to hate this movie, though. It had a decent cast and a good plot line, even if it had been used before.

And how G-Baby died was really sad and brought tears to my eyes. I honestly didn't expect that to happen at first. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Then again; all movies have those who love it, and those who don't. I guess not everyone has the same taste as us. Oh well.
I still really liked the movie. :D
First time I saw this movie I was pissed about G. Baby. That shot down the movie for me. But now I own the DVD. I love it. After knowing the gritty edge to the film I was okay with it overall and genuinely love it and not just because I am a Keanu Reeves fan. I think part of the problem was it was initially kind of promoted as a comedy and it really isn't. There are some good, funny scenes but it's really a drama. And though there are elements to it that are not exactly original, i.e. the down guy who lifts the misfits to success - storyline, the characters are what makes it rise above the others. Esp. the pitcher who needs to hear the music to distract him while he throws and how they all pull together to help him when the "suits" take away his headphones! These kids are the real deal and Reeves is dead-on as the coach with absolutely nothing to lose that gains his whole life by helping these kids. Kids that he realizes have less than he does. And for me, this movie lifts me up to see someone who has it worse than I do, this O'Neil guy, when I start feeling sorry for myself. I put this on and feel better about my life. I have the soundtrack, too and love the song "The Storm is Over Now" by R. Kelly. It moves me. As does this movie. So hell with those who diss Reeves or this film. They must have a great life and nothing to complain about - good for them.
