No. They were making fun of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sarah Michelle Gellar was in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Buffy's character in Scary Movie was supposed to be Sarah Michelle Gellar in I Know What You Did Last Summer.

They only used the name Buffy because Shannon Elizabeth's character was supposed to be Sarah Michelle Gellar in I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was in I Know What You Did Last Summer as well as Scream 2, so they named her 'Buffy Gilmore' which is a play on her most famous role, as well as changing up her last name. Similar to 'Cindy Campbell' and 'Sidney/Neve Campbell"

I always thought Buffy's last name should have been Gellar instead of Gilmore.
