Kurt Russell

Its probably been mentioned here before, but a few years ago i was watching the big trouble in little china commentary and in it Kurt Russell states that he wrote, either a treatment or a full script that became gladiator, i was wondering if there was any truth to it ? if any of you know anything about this ?

Ive seen the special behind the scenes features for gladiator and know about the extensive rewrites they had on that picture so if kurt russell did write it id assume his original idea would look vastly different to the actual film we saw in the end, still im interested to know more.

I also heard that after the original director for tombstone was fired, the new one they brought in pretty much ghost directed that picture and that kurt russell directed that great film.
