Was Commodus a Pedophile?
Was it implied he had or intended to have sex with the boy?

No. But he was fond, as well as jealous to an extent, of him. Not to mention he was too busy creeping on his sister anyway. lol
shareMy guess is that he was omnisexual & ready to have sex with anything or anyone: nephew, sister or Maximus! Or To quote Boris in
Love & Death. . ."I practice a lot when I'm alone."
Indiana nailed it, as usual.
He loved Lucius as a nephew, but was keenly aware that Lucius was his successor.
His lust was reserved for his sister.
"a malcontent who knows how to spell"
Pedophilia was considered normal at the time. I think it's implied that he wanted the boy.
shareHe had a strange concept of love, and his sister was wary because of it. She already knew he sought her affections, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to go after a young man in the family.
"I can't help but notice that there are skulls all over everything. Are we the baddies?"
He never showed any sexual feelings to his nephew that I remember. He did like having him around through.
his sexuality was kind of spooky and insane
Definitely wouldn't have surprised me.
Being the emperor of Rome, you'd think (my knowledge of history is a little fuzzy here so forgive me) that he could surround himself with beautiful women or concubines if he so desired.
If he wasn't that kind of promiscuous person, which would've been unusual in Rome, then that's fine but it's extremely heavily implied that he has romantic feelings for his sister. We know he's fond of her in a brother-sister sort of way, but his relationship with her is shown as evolving (or devolving?) throughout the film and by the end it he almost has a perverted, romantic attraction towards her. When he's become aware of her betrayal he informs her that she will bear him a son, which I'm pretty sure happens before the iconic "Am I not merciful?!?!" further suggesting he was open to incest.
Whenever Commodus was around Lucius, it still had the same creepy vibe that all his scenes with his sister had. We know he loves Lucius in an uncle-nephew sort of way, but he's shown throughout the film as being psychologically unstable and his relationships with family members (his father, his sister) are shown as very subject to change. Of course pedophilia was viewed much differently then, I'm not sure about ancient Rome but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that pedophilia was not only tolerated but encouraged among the Greek Spartans (but don't quote me on that).
It could be that Commodus was planning to kill Lucius, and that's why his affections for him seemed a little off. He loved his father until he killed him to become emperor. He loved his sister a little too much, then decided she would provide him an heir so we can only assume what Commodus would do to her once that task had been completed. Besides, if Commodus is planning on having his sister produce an heir for him, then that makes his nephew Lucius a potential rival, and it'd make much more sense for the psychopathic Commodus to nip this problem in the bud before it can grow into a soldier or politician.
In my mind, Commodus was either a pedophile or was planning to kill Lucius at some point and was merely playing nice. Either way, the bastard got what was coming to him.
Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.
Um, no. He was creepy, but I didn't see any suggestion of that.
