Wouldnt that German have hatred for Maximus?

never got why he was so friendly since Maximus annihilated his people.

He was a jerk to him until the battle of Carthage when Maximus saved his life.

What I don't get is when Maximus asks "anyone been in the army?" He says "I served with you at ____". But then he later contradicts that by asking Maximus about Germania.

He isn't the one who responded to the question.

"a malcontent who knows how to spell"

He says "I served with you at Vindobona".

Every time I hear that line I get this thought of Maximus saying something like 'Jeez and all this time you didn't even say hey'.

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

The Romans were a succesful Empire because they Latinized the populations they conquered, they integrated them into the Empire the populations conformed to the ideas and customs of the ancient Romans and visa-versa.
The felix legions were very cosmopolitan.
