Commodos got a bum deal
His father steals his birthright from him and gives it to some upjumped soldier. His sister betrays him. The Senate stabs him in the back. I don't blame him for doing what he did.

shareTruthfully, you're 100% right. His father got his chance to be emperor and then decided to give Rome "to the people" after he's dead? Uh no.
shareActually the position of Emperor wasn't one of automatic inheritance, you were required to have demonstrated certain qualities that would be of benefit to Rome in military and bureaucratic matters so you're incorrect in claiming it was his birthright. Commodus didn't qualify for the position, simple as.
Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!
In reality the real commodos did succeed Marcus aurelius and marked the decline of the Roman empire
shareCommodus, bum deal. I see what you did there . Clever......
sharecommodos is an evil *beep*
he murdered his own father and he wanted to give his own sister a bum deal
As previously stated... The title of emperor wasn't traditionally passed from father to son. Rather it was given to someone that was groomed to the position, and they in turn were adopted into the sitting emperors family.
No one really knows why his father was so insistent that Commodus inherit the throne, rather than the way he himself had come to power.
