How did Lisa know Daisy had to poop?

"You know what I think? I think you wanna poop daisy, I think it's been days..."

How does she know?

Many perscription med regimens cause slow-moving bowels. Daisy states she only eats chickens from her father's deli or restaurant, which would also make it worse. Colace is less taxing to the health than laxatives (I forget why, but they definitely work different ways to solve the same problem; colace is also considered more gentle). So Lisa knew Daisy needed colace because:
1) Daisy herself had been demanding colace earlier from the nurse;
2) Lisa knew Daisy was on meds, and only ate chicken;
3) Daisy was known to also 'hoard' valium, another med that slows natural BM's.
4) Almost every patient in the movie was on meds, so of course (since most patients talk among themselves) they likely assumed the meds affected Daisy in the same way.

With all those factors, and the fact Daisy stayed in her room almost constantly and wouldn't eat other foods in the cafeteria (which is likely why the doctors cut back or stopped her colace, because greens and vegetables would have at least helped Daisy "go" more naturally), Lisa probably just guessed that 'it had been days'.

Such conditions are common to people on multiple meds for many different conditions -- mental health meds are merely one of many medical regimens. Probably the most common are those people who are treated for pain, which can include muscle relaxers, xanax/ativan/valium, and may include sleep medications; narcotics, opiate meds are the ones that frequently produce the most slowed colon effects.

The word "poop" is in the title. Bit late to claim you had no idea what subject you chose to view. With that fact in mind, may I ask why my response offended you so, when it used no disrespectful, nor explicit language whatsoever?

If I've misread a joke, I apologize, truly. I just couldn't help but wonder about your unexpected comment :D

It's not the meds that make her unable to poop. Daisy has bulimia, and instead of purging by vomiting, she uses laxitives to "rid" herself of the binges of chicken. We know she binges because it shows/talks about the chickens that pile up under her bed that her molestor father brings her.

Also, in an early scene, she is begging for Colace or another laxitive from the nurses. Lisa probably overheard her cries. When you abuse laxitives to "purge", it slows down your BM and you become dependent on them. But even less than her dependence is her addiction to "release" her BMs after she binges on food.

Lisa knew Daisy was bulimic, and that her purging method was laxitives. It's what made her so upset when Daisy was released - even up to the day she was released, she continued to binge on chicken and purge with laxitives. She was not better at all, but her special daddy convinced them to let her go to her own place, which both worried and ticked off Lisa.

If you eat nothing but chicken you won't poop because of a lack of fiber... Fiber helps move it all along...

Opiates make a person extremely constipated. (Percocet, Vicodin)

As another poster mentioned, Daisy only ate chicken and nothing else which is why she didn't have any BM's. She needed to eat some apples or bran cereal in addition to the chicken.

Lisa heard Daisy asking for Colace, which is a stool softener, so she figured Daisy needed to have a BM.
And since she only ate chicken, she would likely be very constipated.

What I didn't really get was why she asked for Colace. Colace is a stool softener, not a laxative.

It looked like the nurse would not give Daisy any laxatives because she was a "laxative junkie" like Lisa said (that's why Lisa thought Daisy was like Janet - eating disorder) so Daisy was asking for at least colace if she couldn't have laxatives. And they wouldn't give her that either.
