Best Christmas Movie
I think this is the most Christmas-y of all Christmas movies. My family has to watch it every year. I wish more people knew of this delightful film. Is there anyone else out there who loves this movie as much as I do?

shareI remember, as a child, I would watch this movie every year. It is still my favorite Christmas movie. It really is a heartwarming film.

Just plain brilliant. Utterly authentic. Christmas as it was meant to be celebrated - but long, long, long ago, it seems, now. The figures seem like a different species, when you consider the consumption-based rat race we stagger through today.
shareOur VHS was gradually falling apart, so very happy to see the DVD on the shelves this Christmas.
I grew up in Wales and have childhood memories that follow this story perfectly, although a generation later than the time of this film. But I too got a little conductor's hat and bell and ticket punch, and the sort of stocking stuffers the young Geraint receives.
For my family, this film evokes the true spirit of Christmas. It is marvelous.
I agree with you all, wholeheartedly.
This is the kind of Christmas that I have always tried to arrange for my children, even here in the 21st century. We sing, we play silly games, we invite family members and friends to join us...
And we don't turn the television on. Not allowed, not wanted. Until late in the evening when we're all tired, when we might put it on to watch this film!
Every christmas eve my family watches this movie, we've been known to forsake extended family christmas eve parties so we'll have time to watch it, weve gone through so many vhs copies of it, we bought the dvd as soon as it came out.... such an absolutely wonderful movie.
shareI taped this film years ago from a PBS broadcast, and our family has made it a holiday tradition to view it ever since--it is almost a sacred event! The bedtime scene when the cast sings "All Through the Night" in harmony never fails to undo me completely! It's as if the message of this simple story is that through the love of family (and family traditions) our pasts are always present realities. At least that's how I've interpreted it for myself. My only wish is that the DVD would have allowed for a subtitle option 'cause it's easy to miss some of old Geraint's subtle and charming narration in the audio.
shareThe film was brilliantly done. It took some getting used to for me -- I'd been listening to Dylan Thomas's audio recording of it for years, and no film version could ever match up to the magic his voice brings to the story. But the film is a favourite of mine, and a priceless addition to the holiday season.
For those of you not familiar with Thomas's reading of the book, I strongly recommending getting ahold of it. It's better than any Christmas movie.
Same. We watched a vhs tape from PBS for years an years. Great to finally have it on DVD. The best christmas movie around.

I'm in my 40s, and I still try to watch this every Christmas. For years it was run on Canadian TV, but in recent years, I've had to borrow it from a local library. My favorite part is near the end when the family sings All Through the Night.
Yeah, it was CBC that ran it every Christmas Eve for ages. In the past few years, they've dropped it in favour of spending the evening airing It's a Wonderful Life ... which is a great movie, but really, I'd prefer to see our national broadcaster air something with heavy Canadian content like A Child's Christmas in Wales.

I dearly love a laugh.
It is absolutely enchanting. I watch it every year as well.
shareJust watched it again last night. It really is the most Christmasy of Christmas movies, in its evocation of a mood & of sweet memories made even sweeter & more precious over time.
shareIt's great, truly a classic. Near the end, when the grandfather gently kisses the sleeping boy on the cheek, and the boy touches the grandfather's cheek, I get teary, and I'm not an easy crier. I'm getting all emo right now, just thinking about it.
