Thanks alot, it's been bugging me for a long while now.
shareJohnny Got His Gun, by Dalton Trumbo. Very Old book that was very controversial after it's post WWII Release. About a man who gets shelled in WWI and is kept alive by doctors, however unable to communicate with anyone. No arms, legs, face, voice, or ears. Nothing. Metallica based the song One off of this novel.
Also a movie. Very Intense.
I thought that was it! I read that version while I was in high school, and when I saw the paperback cover, a flood of memories just washed over me, things I had completely forgotten. Interesting what one antiwar novel paperback book cover can do! I am a woman so, while I did enjoy the film, found no perfonal relevance, other than that book cover! Thank you for your answer.
Human Rights: Know them, demand them, defend them.
Thank you for the answer! I too was wondering after glimpsing the cover and trying to place it. I was wondering what significance it had in the film's context. At first I was guessing it might be "MASH" until I found this thread.
I'm very curious to read the book now. The descriptions and reviews of the novel make it sound very intense!

I'm also curious to see either of the two film adaptations:
Johnny Got His Gun (1971) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067277/
Johnny Got His Gun (2008) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1078582/
Dalton Trumbo was blacklisted during the red scare for refusing to testify before the HUAC. he won two oscars while writing screenplays under a pseudonym.
