Question for anyone who saw this in theaters

I was just on the WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE board, and there's a thread that says there was a teaser trailer attached to the front of this when it was released, and half the thread swears it was attached, the other half can't remember or find any evidence of it.

So...does anyone remember seeing this in theaters? And if so, do you remember the trailers? And if so, do you remember a WHERE/WILD THINGS trailer? And if so, could you post it on that board?

I remember seeing trailers for "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", "Shrek" and "The Family Man". That's all I remember seeing in the theatre.

reply

wow you have a good memory. I don't remember trailers I saw a month ago

reply

I saw no preview of the sort when I saw it in theaters on the first day.

Why would there have been a trailer for a movie that wouldn't come out for another nine years???

It's called a teaser trailer, it happens all the time. The studio knows the movie is coming out and they want people to know about it, but then stuff happens and deals fall apart. When I saw The Emperor's New Groove in 2000 there was a teaser trailer for what was being called The Santa Clause 2: The Escape Clause. I specifically remember exactly how the trailer played out and yet the movie didn't come out until 2 years later and "The Escape Clause" subtitle was removed and eventually used for the 3rd film in 2006. There was also a teaser trailer for Men in Black II on the limited edition DVD in 2000, the movie hadn't even started filming yet and it took 2 years before it was released also.

But I think 9 years is kind of a stretch, don't you?

reply

No, because they were excited and thought it was going to come out, they didn't know it was gonna take 9 years, they probably thought it was coming out the following year or at the least the summer after the following year. They wouldn't have put a trailer up for a movie if they knew it wasn't going to come out for 9 years.

I was a projectionist when this came out and there was no "Where the Wild Things Are" trailer included. One funny thing is this was when the industry was being paranoid about people complaining about inappropriate trailers on 'family' movies- trailers for The Mummy Returns and Head Over Heels were included in the film cans, but notes went out saying not to run these with The Grinch- Mummy Returns being too scary and Head Over Heels being too vulgar.

That was planned and put on the 1994 "Santa Clause [1]". :)

Yeah but it took 2 years for the movie to come out AND they dropped the subtitle. Not saying that it never happens, but it's kind of odd that they would have advertised a movie 2 years before it came out. I've never seen that trailer since and I've tried to find it.

I thought I was the only one who remembered the ORIGINAL Santa Clause 2 teaser trailer: The Escape Clause. I remember seeing that original preview before 102 Dalmatians and I was very confused when it was finally released wondering what happened to the escape clause!

It's even on Youtube: Here is the link:

I saw it in theaters twice, there was no such trailer. I WOULD HAVE REMEMBERED, SERIOUSLY. :)
But that was just my theater.
