At the time I thought this movie was stupid to win it all. All it took was one viewing to prove me wrong. It’s so mesmerising. So real. Such a strong critique on American Culture. So Sad. So Beautiful!

AGREED...THIS IS THE FILM THAT MADE KEVIN SPACEY,CHRIS COOPER AND WES BENTLEY INTO FAVORITE ACTORS FOR ME.PLUS THORA BIRCH AND MENA SUVARI BOTH GO TOPLESS....100% THE BEST FILM OF 1999.

Their best from all of them Annette included and it was got me started with all of them my first movie from them all and made me a fan of them all.

I just watched it and loved it.

The one most impressive thing about this movie I think is despite that barely anything happens during the whole movie and there is no real big event (unlike some other dramas with murder, rape, incest and much more plot) you still cannot stop watching it and are on the edge of your seat the whole time, to manage to do that successfuly is really really impressive.

Personally, I liked other 1999 films more than this film. —-

Eyes Wide Shut, Matrix, Magnolia, virgin Suicides, Fight Club, Ninth Gate, Iron Giant, The Straight Story, The War Zone, Topsy Turvy, The Road Home.

Particularly The Straight Story. Pure Americana, and G rated ... by David Lynch of all people!
