The book is SOOOOO GOOOOOD

I haven't seen the TV movie, but I just finished reading the book for a school thing, and its one of my new favorites. Its such a wonderful story and all the characters just come alive. I've also read one of her other books, Celestial Navigation, which I really didn't like, but then I read this one and it just totally redeemed this author for me.

GO OUT AND BUY THIS BOOK NOW. SERIOUSLY!

This music makes me lose control!

I read this book in the 7th grade and I love it.
I had no idea a movie was made, it even features some of my favorite actors.

The movie version is terrible. I love this book, and the movie version ends the story at least 20 years too soon and it contains a very pro-religion theme.

Obviously, the book has religious themes, but I would disagree that it's pro-religion because each character has a differing opinion of the Church of the Second Chance.

Additionally, all of the wonderful humor and character development in the book is missing in the movie.

I think Saint Maybe is her best work. Might I suggest Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant and The Clockwinder. They're both great as well.

I didn't know it was a book so I think I'll check it out. I just saw the movie for the first time on the Hallmark Channel & I kind of liked it but was sort of disappointed, too. It was just a little too cheesy & fake for my taste. Yes, I know it's a Christmas movie on the Hallmark Channel & cheesy & fake are kind of synonymous with the movies on that channel, lol, but it was too much even for my sentimental & mushy old heart. I'm sure the book goes into much better detail about the transformation of Ian from precocious college boy to religious furniture maker, etc. I just found it unbelievable that he would give up college to become a furniture maker & become all uber-religious after wandering into that non-denominational church. I guess it's because I don't believe people can truly change like that. I've never seen it in real life & the people who claim to have changed like that are usually exposed to be major phonies. I know God has the power to change someone's heart, I just don't think it happens like it did in the movie.
