Was the CGI Army of the Dead a 'rush job'?

The trilogy was an incredible effort all round and I'm sure everything was done the very best at the time.

Even so, I thought that the CGI Army that rushed off the pirate ship at the Orc Army near the end of RoTK was lame, even at the time.

It was incredibly lame and it turns Aragorn into an idiot as he didn’t command them to kill all the Orcs in Mordor along with Shelob as well. It wasn’t like that in the book.

In 2003, our theater row groaned when the green soapy Army of the Dead poured off the Corsair ships into Pelennor fields. It looked so wrong back then, and with my rewatch yesterday, it just looked horrific. Where the heck was the Grey Company? Where the heck were the Men of Gondor? They were the ones supposed to come off of those ships, not soapy bubbly cleansing formula.
