Was this in theaters?

I started watching this on TV without a clue of what it was. I became amazed of how many famous actors are in this movie. I also really enjoyed this movie. But I don't ever remember hearing about it. Is this an indie or what?

I think it was shown at the suncoast films or something? But I don't think it reached theaters.

No wonder I never could find this one! I am huge Chris Cooper fan, and I searched desperately in 2002 to find where this movie was playing. I looked in the NY Times every day at all the indie houses in Manhattan. Now I see a user comment that this movie was never released in theaters or DVD! Crime! This afternoon it's on TV, 1600 hours on WNYA. I hope I can get the antenna tuned properly by then, and they haven't cut anything good for broadcast!

I add all of Chris' movie to my personal collection, but it sounds like I should place this at the top of the list.

no it wasnt. they showed it at a few film festivals but studio's didnt think it would appeal to mass audiences so htey rejected it even tho it had a great embracement from the indie film fans

i had heard of it back in 2002 also and thought it would be great to see...sadly it must have never quite made it to theaters because i too checked the art house theaters all within some miles of me (i do that anyways just to see what's there) but yeah it wasn't untill this past weekend when i was in the shop looking at old used vhs tapes and i saw it sitting there amongst the old movies from the 80's and i was like really??? its out??? and its on video wtf???? so i bought it 2 bucks whoo hoo and yeah i really enjoyed it..i almost forgot about it...not really forgot about it..but it was waaaaay in the back of my mind and then to see it sitting there alongside you know The Great Outdoors or Uncle Buck was like hey remember you wanted to see this movie once upon a time well here it is!....

really really enjoyed it...was almost worth the five year wait to actually see it..and what if anything can i ask is ever worth five years to actually see???

man that is so awesome, that's exactly what happened to me! I was up really late one night flipping channels, and then i see "that x-men guy" then it reeled me in with the story. i was really lucky to catch it really early on in the film, i remember him sitting at a desk with an x-men comic. the movie grabbed me and never let go, i think i stayed up to near 5:00am. this might be the greatest movie that no one has ever seen.

According to the director's commentary on the DVD, the distribution company which was to place the film into theaters went bankrupt. This was an independent film; the more famous & celebrated actors who appeared in it did so because the writer/director called in favors. I do not understand the mechanism of film distribution, so I'm just repeating what the writer/director said.
