Why'd Carrie wanna live in that tiny apartment?

In the final episodes of the last season she acts so passionate about moving into that tiny apartment like it would be such an upgrade from her current life. And i was just thinking why the fuck do you wanna live in that tiny apartment when you got a nice big house? Am i crazy or wasn't her house much nicer than that apartment?

The house was infinitely nicer than that shoebox apartment. I don't blame Doug one bit for balking at her dumb idea of moving into that place.
