Carrie , do you thinks she's annoying ??

I find Carrie extremely annoying.
Some episode are really good with great, strong humor , but some episode are very, very idiotic , with stupid lines, superficial situations and very bad premis. i hate those episodes when Carrie is a frustrated bitch and Doug an immature stupid child

That's the whole show! All nine years!

As the series progressed Doug and Carrie fell more into the characteristic traits you describe but it was a gradual move. Carrie was a lot nicer in the beginning but she was never the America's sweetheart personality.

Carrie could be annoying, they all could. Carrie had a few instances where her moral value could be questioned but overall she was just a headstrong personality.

The first few seasons she was really loving towards Douglas. Always smiling and kissing him and wanting sex. I gotta be honest, I did not like her character like that. It made it hard to watch. I liked her much better once she had the attitude.

I didn't mind Carrie during the 1st 5 seasons. And a few of season 6.

She had flaws and could be annoying, like any character, but she was still likable imo.

Once Leah Remini had weight on her, the character got more controlling and mean. So half-way into season 6, she was flanderized and getting meaner and meaner. I tend to not watch the show much from season 6-9.

I'm on the eighth season, and Carrie has definitely turned very nasty. An episode where she really treated her co-workers horribly really bothered me.. . .. mean and meaner! I'm almost tempted to quit watching the series.

That seems extreme. It's a sitcom, if all characters were perfect with non flaws, where would the humour come from?

reply

Yes, I understand, but Carrie wasn't so mean in the earlier seasons. I've always thought of King of Queens as a 1990s The Honeymooners, but ever since Season 7 and 8, I'm inclined to change my mind. I'm not the only one noticing the change in Carrie. It's mentioned several times on this site.

Yes.

After 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 years ... writers run out of ideas.

And they try to place strong exaggerations -- stronger than they normally would -- on one aspect of the character that is humorous. In this case, Carrie's meanness and bitchiness.

After many years -- and running out of ideas (for character development) -- the writers often resort to this tactic. Find a funny attribute in a character that gets good laughs. Then really, really, really exaggerate that attribute, hoping to get even more laughs.

Yes, Carrie definitely gets meaner but she's also a lot funnier. She's pretty bland in earlier seasons. In fact, the comedy overall is less edgy in those early seasons.

reply

I agree that the early seasons and the late ones have a different "feel".

reply

You mean when she planned to ride Dawn's frumpy azz all the way to Niceville?

That episode was hilarious until Carrie went over the top at the end with personalized insults at everyone unlucky enough to be standing there.

Alls I knows is, she must have to break that makeup off with a jackhammer at the end of the day.

Why. Why so much makeup. Ew.
