They always put trained actors in the cast with a stand up comedian they need real actors to carry the show. Just look at Seinfeld Jason Alexander is a song and dance man but many people never knew that.

I agree with what you say.

However, a "song and dance man" is different than an "actor" ... no?

A song and dance man is a stage actor who not only acts but can sing and dance as well. My whole point is that you look at Jason Alexander in Seinfeld and see the lazy stocky guy because he plays it so well but go on youtube and watch him sing and dance and you will be amazed. My whole point is that you never know by looking how talented someone really is and great actors make you forget they are acting which is why Seinfeld was so great the supporting characters were all really talented.

Yes, I agree. Jason Alexander has -- for better or worse -- been stereotyped with that George Costanza role. He can never shed that image, no matter how good a "song-and-dance man" he is (or was).

In other words ... Jason Alexander will forever be associated with his Seinfeld role. All of his great work as a song-and-dance man will always be both a footnote and an afterthought.
