The British make the best horror...

I love the simple settings, the subtlety, the no-nonsense characters accompanied by good acting, and the direction that is looking only to tell a story (and a chilling one at that).

Which would you say was the best UK series?

"Supernatural" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0396375/

"Shades of Darkness" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1729107/

"Beasts" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169416/

"Hammer House of Horror" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080231/

"Thriller" (the one we're on, of course)

If you find the word "best" is too broad, then let's say, "chilling." There. Which would you rank most chilling?

I assume everyone is also familiar with these: http://www.imdb.com/find?q=Ghost+for+Christmas&s=all

And does anyone possess a decent copy of this obscure gem: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286049/

As an American who loves subtle horror with atmosphere and spookiness, I have to say that the best stuff seems to come out of the UK (maybe next to Japanese horror films, which I have seen very few of; honorable mention to the classic Kwaidan).

Schalken the Painter can be found on YouTube. I have it on my playlist along with every episode of Chiller/Armchair, and more like quatermass on gesturestear.
