File It Under Fear
Just saw this one and really enjoyed it. I think this is another example of how the scariest shows are not the modern movies with excessive gore, flashy graphics and tons of swearing and violence, but rather the slow-moving shows where ordinary people in ordinary towns find themselves in extraordinary situations.
The library setting was a magnificent choice, and probably the last place you'd expect a serial killer to hang around. Normally, you'd just expect a library to contain mostly plain, studious, quiet types.
My favorite character was the old lady. On one hand, she seemed like a nurturing, kindly old lady, but then she would constantly delight in hearing about the latest murder, or pester her daughter for her nightly newspaper.
Speaking about the daughter, she was my least favorite character. I don't know why she just didn't let George have a key, it didn't strike me as a big deal. Then she murdered the innocent policeman.
I liked most of the male characters here. Some of them were dour, others seemed slightly creepy, really added dimension to this episode.
The only thing I didn't like about this episode was the ending. I saw it coming from a mile down the road. It was pretty obvious that old guy was stalking the ladies. He was there at the library every morning when it opened, and every night when it closed. Then he offered to walk the girls home. It was clear he was an old man with nothing to do.
I'm an an American fan of the show. Love the British and American shows.
