Because 95% of writers, producers, and directors are no longer interested in art, only what tripe they can produce cheaply. And most of the populace can't use their brains beyond dialing the number for their favourite X Factor contestant. So we have the era of Honey Boo Boo. Sad, but true.

Some good points made there. Well, I happen to be a writer myself, so I could certainly show these producers a thing or two in regard to crafting a good story, should they wish to see samples of my work.
The trouble with today's TV progs and movies is that there is far too much emphasis on sex and swearing instead of story.

Bullcrap from all previous posts.
There is an anthology series called The Masters Of Horror airing on cable, there's the TV show The Walking Dead on AMC, there's the vampire drama True Blood on HBO, there briefly was the horror drama 666 Park Avenue on ABC, and there was a ton of horror drama shows on TV in the 90's and 2000's (complete list at http://www.ranker.com/list/horror-fiction-tv-shows-and-series/referenc e). Where have you people been?
Yes, I KNOW about all those "horror" series you mentioned. However, I don't think these shows can quite match the sheer brilliance and quality story telling that was THRILLER.

Bullcrap, again-I think that many of those mentioned do match or even exceed Thriller, and that you are foolish for not having noticed them in your quest to believe that the past and anything from the past are 'the good old days' simply because they may be a bit risqué than what you're used to. That does not mean that I think that Thriller is inferior, rather I think that the newer shows are equal to it.
shareNo, I don't agree. I am not too keen on today's "horror TV shows". What spoils some of them for me - esp the vampire ones - is the annoying tendency to dilute the fear factor (e.g. making vampires young, misunderstood, pinup-type heroes).

Making vampires 'all evil' is just lazy scriptwriting that set up things to be completely black and white with no shades of grey, which makes for boring drama all around. If you want to see that, you can watch all of the crime shows on TV (CSI, Criminal Minds, NCIS, The Mentalist, etc.) but vampire shows shouldn't have be like that, nor should most anthologies be like that.
Also, vampires tend to be young because they were converted young (or were born and stayed young, if said vampires can conceive and sire children.) If I for example was turned at age 26, then I'd be stuck at age 26. To be sure, movies and TV always skew young, but that's the nature of the business.
Plus, you got the current NBC hit horror series GRIMM and the SUPERNATURAL on the CW (which is still going strong in its eigth year) and both are very good shows that have gotten better over time (GRIMM improved a hell of a lot after its first season, and so did SUPERNATURAL.) My only problem with today's shows is that they have WAY too much gore (especially SUPERNATURAL--I mean, I like the show, but damn, I don't want to see aomebody's arm bite into like I did this week's episode---eeyuck!)
shareYes the 1970's shows were unique in that they didn't have all these explosions, CGI effects, thriller music and 5 minute end-of-movie death battles. Instead, the 70's movies I found to be quite plausible and charming in their own way. I wonder where many of the old actors and actresses are now, and often make my way to IMDB after the movie to find out.
shareIt has to be remembered that in Thriller there are no computers; no Internet; no mobile phones and no Dna testing. Beautiful series. It was very good because it was written by a master, Brian Clemen.
