when i first recorded it too it did that lol! well he sits on the bench to talk to john and john says sorry for kicking him in the locker room. he said all he wanted to told was hold him. so sadly steve goes " you know what i just did in there?" and john pretty much doesnt say anything. so steve tells him to be happy and walks away towards a road where linda driving that nice red car pulls up and asks him for a drive. then they drive away with the song freedom playing on the radio.
hope i helped.

look here this person summed it up pretty good.
Steven goes to find Johnny on the bench next to the running track after he has made his acception speech at the assembly. He outs himself with quite the tears. It's a beautiful, but heart-wrentching scene. As he finds Johnny, he sits next to him. Johnny tells him, "After I hit you, all I could think about was holding you. And I know. I REALLY know that I've never loved anyone more than you." Steven asks him, "You know what just did in there, don't you?" Johnny simply nods, with tears running along his cheeks. This is when Steven stands, running his fingers through Johnny hair and utters, "Be happy, Johnny."
In any case, as I sat there, watching it for the first time, the ending was a torture. It was a turn I did not expect, nor want.

I was happy with the ending. I felt like Steven did the right thing, by going ahead into the future, and leaving Johnny to struggle without him. It may have been cruel of him, but he couldn't put his life on a hold for Johnny. I felt like Steven was the true protagonist in the movie, and he reached his happy ending, without Johnny. I would have preferred Johnny to come out too, but I'm happier that Steven chose to leave him rather then stay with him while he's in the closet. I would have loved to see a sequel of a sort, though, with Johnny finding his own happy ending.
