Why didn't Steven realize ..... ?

I've had a new thought pop into my head recently about a problem in the plot.

Steven composed the article "Get Real" and slipped it into the school's computer surreptitiously. Then Mark discovered the article, read it out loud, and we hear this conversation, ...
Mark: Did you authorize this sir?
Mr. Hutton: No, I didn't.
Mark: Well someone in this room did. We're the only ones with a password.
Jessica: I did. It was handed in anonymously. I thought it was well-written and thought-provoking.

Why didn't Steven realize that he could not have submitted the article without one of the magazine team realizing that it had to be put in by a member of the team? Wouldn't he have known that he, Mark, Wendy, Jessica, and Mr. Hutton were the only ones with the password to access the submitted articles?

Absolutely. I have always felt that the picture taking would have opened up there ability to talk or at least be friendly prior to the ball. Just saying things like drop into your starting position; oh lift your head and tilt more to the right, move your right hand in closer-- would have broken the ice from the chill in the first bedroom scene.
