I have been able to decipher everything said now except what Kevin said to Dave at the ball and then Dave gave him his cigarette. Even Sarah in her transcript could not understand that word. What I think I hear is"commoner" which of course doesn't make sense.
shareI'm only guessing, but it sounded to me like Kevin said "Kupperman," which I understood to mean, possibly, Dave's last name. You know, like when John referred to Kevin by his last name, Granger.
In context with their actions, it might make sense to think that, whatever word Kevin said, it seemed as if he was asking Dave to pass him the *thing* Dave was smoking, a cigarette or a joint, whatever it was.
Good guess. It is plausible. Just like we learned the teacher's name, Hutton, from Kevin saying it and running into the locker room. There is somebody who watches these boards who said that he helped make the movie, but he hasn't responded.

shareI have finally gotten GR on DVD, and I have watched the whole thing with subtitles for the hearing impaired turned on.
It seems odd, but according to the subtitles, Kevin said "You all right, my man?" to Dave. If that's really a serious effort to explain what was in the script, actor Tim Harris was mumbling way too much.
It's quite cool to watch GR with the subtitles. Certain lines I could never understand before are clear:
After Wendy says that the "Get Real" article will give something people to talk about, Steven said (I could always understand this line before) that it's more interesting than "Walking in the Cotswolds," but for the next line Ben Silverstone turned away and mumbled, and now I know what he said: "or whatever it could replace."
When Wendy says that Mr. Alcock won't let the magazine staff print the "Get Real" article, Steven said " 'Disgusted at Basingstoke' strikes again." I used to think Steven was calling Mr. Alcock a bastard. I'm trying to figure out what "Disgusted at Basingstoke" means, though.
Sometimes the subtitles reveal some subtle differences in what I thought I always heard before. Like John calling his mother on his mobile: "I'm still at Kevin's. ... What, did he ring? ... Oh, well, we had a bit of a row yesterday, ..." (That is what is in the subtitles, and as I listen to John carefully, it does sound, now, more like "he".) I used to think that John said "What, did you ring?" so the dialogue used to mean to me that Mrs. Dixon tried to call John at Kevin's, Kevin must have told Mrs. Dixon that John wasn't there (the truth), and therefore it sounded suspicious that John claimed to "still" be at Kevin's, and he had to explain to his mom about spending some time at Dave's and going back to Kevin's again. But it turns out now, using the word "he" instead of "you," that Kevin called Mrs. Dixon. Does the fact that Kevin called the Dixon's house instead of Mrs. Dixon calling Kevin help this scene make any more sense? Maybe the subtitles did not get every single word correct, and I heard it right the first several times.
That was a great job at deciphering and piecing together all of the "important" questions to us buffs. It truly explains a lot, particularly about the mobile phone call from Steve's bedroom.
The cigarette exchange is not explained to me, because the last syllable that Kevin utters before getting the cigarette was --er. not man.

I guess it doesn't really make any difference whether Kevin called Mrs. Dixon or the other way around; the bottom line was that Kevin and she talked on the phone, and Kevin told her that John was not there, at Kevin's house, so Mrs. Dixon knew John was lying when he claimed he was spending part of that weekend at Kevin's. John felt bad because he lied to his mother about where he was, and he realized, too late, that she clearly could figure out that it was a lie by just talking to Kevin, whomever made the call to the other.
shareWho called whom had to be an assumption to the movie watcher from the limited conversation. I believe that the Fan Fiction writers universally assumed that his mother called Kevin, so naturally I did. Indeed John felt "caught" and therefore "gay shame" which drove his actions.
shareWe are down to hair splitting. I listened to the phone call scene this morning in the car, and all John says is What. He did not add "did he ring" even in a mumble. He then moved to saying that they had had a row. Very important I know (NOT).
