Ball Weekend Phone Call

In part, I am seeing how many fans of this great film are still out there. Sunday morning after the ball, John calls home on his mobile and learns that his parents were trying to reach him and implied was that they had called Kevin's house. Why would they not have simply called John's mobile?

Mobile phones can be turned off, can't they?

Yes, but there would have been a message and he would have listened before calling or at least would have been better prepared when he called. Just a little thing that could have changed the movie.

They may not have left a message / voicemail may have been off.
